It was released on 10 February 2009 as a sequel to Ghost Rider with American actor Nicolas Cage reprising the role. The film was released in Tamil, Malayalam and Telugu. The film was a commercial success at the box office. The film was dubbed into Telugu as "Ghost Rider", and in Hindi as "Ghost". Ghost Rider is a continuation of the story of Ghost Rider (2007). Johnny Blaze (Vijay) has been living in India for the last few years, doing good deeds under the name "Johnny Johnson". He finds a job in a small town in the US to help the police. However, unbeknownst to them he is a Ghost Rider. Their secret is out, and Johnny finds himself being chased by the bad guys from his past. Meanwhile, a young girl called Shyamala (Samantha Ruth Prabhu) arrives in the small town where Johnny lives. She has just escaped an arranged Hindu "marriage" with her lover Bala Kalyan (Mahesh). She finds herself in another bad situation when she meets a man called Bhaskar (Vijay) who is a local drunkard. However, he also has a dark secret that connected to Shyamala. Johnny discovers the superhero from his past from the Indian police, who have been keeping an eye on him for some time now. It is revealed that Johnny's family only survived because they were cursed by Asura. However, out of gratitude, they set out to destroy Asura. To do so, they had to give up their lives. In the final scenes, Johnny is forced to give up his life for Shyamala and Bhaskar. This allows them to go back in time and change the past. Johnny's family is now living a happy life in India, but there is a catch: whenever there is evil or injustice around he will have to return as the Ghost Rider.
